Steel Flat Bar – Sizes and Specs

Hyper Steel & Palisade branches stock a broad range of steel bars characterised by a width of 200 mm or less and a thickness greater than 5 mm. Square and round bar are typically used to brace light structures, while flat bar is commonly used in fabrication.

Hyper Steel & Palisade sells mild steel flat bar, BS EN10025-2-S355 JR flat bar, as well as 55C flat bar, of which the mild steel flat bars are manufactured in-house. We specialise in flat bar ranging from 12-100 mm in width, with thicknesses of 2 mm, 2,5 mm, 2,7 mm and 3 mm, and a length of 6 m. We also produce non-standard thicknesses up to and including 4,5 mm for all applications including trellis doors, burglar proofing, grating, and engineering applications.

We also do specialised slitting up to 4,5 mm in thickness with widths ranging from 12-500 mm. Our cut-to-length line can level widths of up to 900 mm with thicknesses ranging from 2-12 mm depending on the application. We can accommodate your guillotine requirements up to 16 mm.

Angles

Hyper Steel & Palisade branches stock a broad range of angle iron, also known as L-shaped cross-sections. These are steel bars in the shape of an angle with equal or unequal sides. Angles are typically used as braces to reinforce structures from the outside by increasing overall stress tolerance, but may also be used in sets of two or four to form the main members of a building framework or “skeleton”.

Choose from our selection of mild steel and BS EN10025-2-S355 JR equal and unequal angles.

Window Sections

Hyper Steel & Palisade branches stock a broad range of steel window sections. These sections are used to manufacture window frames for domestic, commercial and industrial buildings alike. Unparalleled in strength, steel window frames are thinner than their aluminium and timber counterparts, giving them the ability to hold larger glass panels and thus display a greater outside view.

Steel window sections are also very durable. Galvanised sections have the added advantage of being permanently resistant to rust and corrosion, and often surpass the lifespan of the buildings they furnish.

Furthermore, steel frames may be used in every imaginable setting, working well with traditional and contemporary architecture. This makes them a popular choice for houses, commercial buildings, schools, factories, hospitals and more. Hyper Steel & Palisade supplies a variety of window sections of different shapes and dimensions. Contact us to find the perfect steel frames for your property.

Channels

Hyper Steel & Palisade branches stock a broad range of channels which can be hot-rolled or cold-rolled. Channels are typically used as braces along building frames for added reinforcement. Channels can be used in carports as support beams and in truck and trailer body building for reinforcement. Channels are also used in roof structures as trusses.

Our selection of channels includes S355 parallel flange channels, CQ hot-rolled lip channels, ISQ230 Z275 galvanised lip channels and BS EN10025-2-S355 JR light channels.

Columns

Columns are designed to support vertical loading down their longitudinal axis (down their length) and are almost square in cross-section (with the width similar to the depth) in order to prevent twisting.

Hyper Steel & Palisade supplies various sections that may be used as a column, including channels, angles, I-beams and universal columns – the latter proving the most effective.

We produce BS EN10025-2-S355 JR universal columns.

Beams

Hyper Steel & Palisade branches stock a broad range of beams which are designed to support horizontal loading across their axis and are therefore much deeper than they are wide in order to prevent bending.

The most common beam in construction is the I-beam, also known as a universal beam – a steel member with an I or H-shaped cross-section. I-beams have a strong centre or “web” for vertical support, along with flanges on either side to provide strength in the horizontal plane. They may be used on their own or cast in concrete.

We supply superior quality BS EN10025-2-S355 JR, JR IPE and JR IPE (AA) universal beams.

Joists

Joists are lightweight supporting members that form long-span support systems for the horizontal surfaces of a building, namely roofs and floors, by transferring their load onto columns and beams. Joists are typically smaller than beams, and tend to run parallel with them. Hyper Steel & Palisade supplies BS EN10025-2-S355 JR joists.

Round Bar, Square Bar, Drilled Rails

Solid round and square bar steel is widely used in general fabrication, industrial maintenance, agricultural applications, transportation equipment, ornamental and decorative ironmongery, security applications and construction projects. Hyper Steel & Palisade branches stock mild steel square and round bars, BS EN10025-2-S355 JR square and round bars, reinforcing HT round bar and drilled rails.
